URD Foreman
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Crew Supervision
- Supervise, train, and direct URD crews in daily underground utility operations
- Assign tasks and ensure crews understand project scope, plans, and safety requirements
- Monitor crew productivity and maintain efficient workflow
- Lead by example in safety, quality, and professionalism
URD Installation Oversight
- Oversee installation of:
- Electrical conduit, duct banks, and URD systems
- Communications and fiber conduit systems
- Gas conduit, sleeves, and related structures
- Ensure proper placement of conduit, spacers, rebar, concrete encasement, and utility structures
- Verify elevations, grades, alignment, and clearances per plans and utility standards
- Coordinate trenching, backfill, compaction, and site restoration
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce OSHA, company, and utility safety standards
- Conduct daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and toolbox talks
- Ensure trench safety, shoring, and proper PPE usage
- Work safely around live electrical, gas, and communication utilities
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions immediately
Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate daily work with Project Managers, Superintendents, inspectors, and utility companies
- Review plans, specifications, and utility standards prior to and during installation
- Identify utility conflicts and field issues; propose and implement solutions
- Coordinate inspections and ensure work is inspection-ready
Quality Control & Documentation
- Ensure work meets project plans, specifications, and utility company standards
- Complete daily reports, timecards, production tracking, and material usage logs
- Document changes, delays, and field conditions accurately
Equipment & Materials Management
- Request and manage materials, tools, and equipment
- Inspect equipment daily and report maintenance needs
- Ensure proper handling and storage of materials on site
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of experience in underground utilities with URD systems
- 2+ years of experience in a Foreman or Lead role
- Strong knowledge of URD construction methods and safety practices
- Ability to read and interpret plans, profiles, and utility standards
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Preferred
- OSHA 30 certification
- Trenching & Shoring Competent Person certification
- Experience with electric utility company standards (FPL, Duke, PG&E, etc.)
- Confined Space or Gas Safety training
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Work Environment
- Outdoor construction sites in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to heavy equipment, traffic, and live utilities
- Overtime, early mornings, nights, or weekends as required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in trenches and around active utility lines
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical field tasks as needed
- Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and climbing

- Reports to Superintendent
